GM&B PATRONS CLUB

Established in 1994 this group of men have already contributed significantly to the long-term vision of Melbourne High School. The group is now 101 in number (as at 2 December 2011) covering leaders from the widest possible variety of professions and businesses.

We are still keen for new members.

The ‘think tank’ concept provides the MHSOB Association and the School with a sound base for professional opinion about aspects affecting their future life, direction and growth.

Our Mission is to contribute to the sustainable development of Melbourne High School so that it becomes and remains nationally and internationally competitive and that it is recognised as such through the excellence and quality of its educational and experiential programs, its facilities and the achievements of its students and their pride in the School.

Meeting in short evening business forums twice a year and at an Annual General Meeting and Dinner, the GM&B Patrons are not overly taxed on their valuable time. Small working groups or committees can meet on an infrequent basis as the needs arise over certain issues if they wish.

AFL FOOTBALL CLUB (THE UNICORNS)

The formal establishment of the Football Club dates from 24 April 1928 although the real origin of the current MHSOB Football Club can be traced back to August 1907 when a football team of past students played the school team, at the old East Melbourne ground. The club has won 20 premierships in the VAFA, but never an A Grade flag!

The home ground is the main school oval in South Yarra, the Woodfull-Miller Oval. All games are played on Saturdays with the seniors (2pm) and reserves (11.40am) alternating grounds with the Under 19s (2pm). Training is usually on a Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6pm-8pm, but pre-season through to the end of March is on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The club has use of excellent social facilities in the Unicorn Club, atop the change rooms in the MHSOBA pavilion complex.

CRICKET CLUB

MHSOBCC is a club that has a rich 92-year history. Our club has lived through moments of glory and adversity, through the good times and the bad, through epic victories and crushing defeats. Each of these moments has contributed to shaping our club into the great organisation it is today.

Recent on field success has included each of the 1st XI, 2nd XI and 3rd XI teams each bringing home a premiership in the past few seasons. This is complemented with our gala social calendar and events enjoyed by all playing and social members of the club.

We train at Melbourne High School (South Yarra) and play at the school ground. In 2008-2009 we are fielding two teams.

If you enjoy playing for a team that enjoys its cricket, has a standard to suit every level of ability and certainly knows how to play off the field, then MHSOBCC is the club for you!

HOCKEY CLUB

MHSOBHC has a long and proud history at all levels of Victorian Hockey, winning recent State League Premierships in 1994, 1996 & 2001, producing numerous State and Australian representatives, and competing in State League One in 1997 and 2003. While the Club retains strong links to Melbourne High through our many current students, Old Boys, and their families, much of our membership comes to us through friends or workmates of current players, and local residents.

The Club is affiliated with Hockey Victoria (HV), and its component Associations; the Victorian Hockey Association (VHA), the Victorian Women’s Hockey Association (VWHA), and the Victorian Junior Hockey Association (VJHA).

Home games for all teams are played at the School (Mel:58E2) on the Ron Seaman synthetic turf in South Yarra; one of the premier sand-based hockey pitches in Victoria, below the brand new Pavilion. Training sessions are held at the ground every Tuesday (Juniors 6:30-7:30, Seniors 7:00-8:30) and Thursday (Seniors 8:30-10:00) nights during the winter hockey season. The Club enters both Indoor (IHV) and Outdoor competitions over the Summer Off-season. We are looking to enter further Men’s, Women’s and Juniors? teams this year, and new players of all standards are always welcome.
